Seaside Arts Center’s dance program safely and effectively trains students in the technical skills necessary for dance participation and performance, while encouraging creativity, personal artistry, as well as emotional, cognitive, and social growth that translates into all other aspects of their lives.

Early Childhood Dance, Movement & Music

Early Childhood Creative Dance classes encourage young children to express themselves physically, to understand and appreciate a variety of forms of music, and to develop their gross motor skills through fun, structured activities.

Dance FUNdamentals (tap w/ Ms. Hannah or duncan fundamentals w/ ms. Elyssa)

Ages 3-6

Early childhood gross motor skills, musicality, and rhythm. Fun for all students with a focus on creative expression and social emotional growth.

Kids Jazz & Tap Combo (Mondays w/ ms. Eliana, fridays w/ ms. dani)

Ages 3-6

From box steps to Jazz walks, shuffles to digs, this class will introduce young children to the rhythms and terminology of both Jazz and Tap in a fun, friendly, and creative environment.

Ages 3-6

 In this lively class, students will get to experience first-hand the benefits of early exposure to music, including enhanced development in the areas of language, math, memory, and more. They’ll be exposed to music, cultures, and languages from around the world, while playing new instruments, moving their bodies, and using their voices to  learn new songs and rhythms.

My Grown-Up & Me - Movement & music (Ms. Hannah)

Ages 1-3

Introduce rhythm, musicality, and movement to your child early, while getting in a little exercise and having a great time bonding! This is a great class for siblings to attend together with their grown-up.

An introduction to the concepts, terminology, etiquette, and movement patterns of Ballet with an emphasis on freedom of expression and creativity.

Develop gross motor skills, musicality and rhythm while learning the basic structure and language of both a Ballet and Tap class. With a focus on personal expression and social emotional growth, student will develop confidence, compassion, and creativity.

Ages 3-6

Dancers will learn fundamental dance skills, work on their gross motor abilities, and gain confidence while getting an introduction  to Hip Hop. Fun for all students with a focus on creative expression and social emotional growth.

Yoga + Art + Mindfulness (w/ ms. Zoe)

Ages 2-6

 In this unique offering, movement, play, art, and mindfulness intertwine to create a fun and engaging class for little ones. The first portion of class will be spent on an expressive art project, and then students will move into an introduction to the practice of yoga.  They'll learn about mindfulness, as well as how to pay attention to how their body feels, how their breath feels, and how to stay present.

Ballet

Seaside Arts Center's Ballet program is designed to ground students in the technique, discipline, artistry, and history of Classical Ballet, while following a curriculum that safely and effectively teaches children to progress through the rigors of the art.

Pre-Ballet (Ms. hannah)

Ages 3-6

The foundational concepts, terminology, and history of Ballet and Tap, including the foundational rhythms and coordinations of tap.  A greater focus on musicality, physicality, class structure, and etiquette.

Ages 7-12

More advanced ballet technique and artistry. Classes follow the traditional structure of a ballet class: barre, center, across-the-floor, reverence.

Ages 11 - 18

More advanced ballet technique and artistry. Classes follow the traditional structure of a ballet class: barre, center, across-the-floor, reverence. This class includes pre-pointe exercises.

Contemporary & Modern Dance

Seaside Arts Center's Contemporary & Modern Dance program is built upon classical Modern dance techniques in a contemporary context. Modern Dance, like Modern Art, tends to be more abstract than classical dance. In these classes, students gain a solid foundational technique that allows them to develop their own style of dance

Duncan FUNdamentals (Ms. Elyssa)

Ages 3-6

Early childhood gross motor skills, musicality, and rhythm informed by Isadora Duncan's style with a focus on nature, elements, and helping foster children's innate creativity.

Duncan 1 (Ms. Elyssa)

Ages 5-9

An introduction to Isadora Duncan's style and choreography with a focus on creativity, personal expression, and musicality. Widely considered the “Mother of Modern Dance,” Duncan created a style and technique grounded in nature and science upon which generations of modern dancers built. This technique gives children solid foundations upon which to branch out into any dance technique.

Duncan 2 (Ms. Elyssa)

Ages 10-16+

Students learn Duncan's choreography, technique, and history while developing their own artistry, choreography, and ability to speak about dance. Students learn and perform Isadora Duncan's choreography, teach audiences about the history of the work and their own lineage within the Duncan legacy, and develop their own artistry and voice through dance. Performances feature historic modern dance as well as contemporary choreography and choreography created by dancers.

Ages 7-12

Contemporary dance is an expressive style of dance that infuses elements of different dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet.

SUPPLEMENTARY DANCE PROGRAMS

Strengthening & conditioning (Ms. Dani)

Ages 10-16+

The perfect cross-training for all athletes to take their abilities to the next level. Students will gain strength, technique, and knowledge from the many different exercises done in class. Will help grow confidence in dance classes and sports alike!

Get down to Hip Hop classics and music filled with positive messages. In Hip-Hop 1, dancers will learn Hip Hop grooves, the fundamentals of Hip Hop, and build their freestyle skills! Students gain confidence in their own personal style while learning an introduction to Hip Hop!

Ages 7-12

Get down to Hip Hop classics and music filled with positive messages.  In Hip-Hop 2, dancers will continue to learn Hip Hop grooves and honing their fundamental skills while exploring a variety of Hip Hop styles and techniques including Breakdance, Tutting, Popping and Locking, Waving, and more! Students will gain confidence in their own personal style and develop as Hip-Hop choreographers, all while learning about the Hip Hop styles that inspire the world!

Ages 3-6

Seaside Arts Center’s Theater program is built upon the theater principles of PLAY, ENSEMBLE, and EMPATHY. This program not only empowers individual students to speak with full voices, stand confidently in front of others, and lead with a playful imagination, but it also empowers them within a collaborative ensemble.

Yellow Brick Road: A Wizard of Oz Inspired Performance ClasS (MS. eLYSSA &

Kindergarten & Up

Follow the Yellow Brick Road and join us as we create a magical, original show inspired by the Wizard of Oz and Wicked, featuring the beloved characters, the classic Broadway songs, and our own unique spin on the themes of courage and creativity. Perfect for actors, singers, and dancers alike, they’ll refine performance skills in their preferred method. If you like to perform there’s a place for you!

 A more detailed exploration of ensemble building, spatial awareness, character development, voice control, and scene work. Great for raising confidence in presentations and auditions!

Ages 7-12

Students will develop their own voices while learning to sing in an ensemble with others. After warming up their voices and bodies to sing safely and practice good musicianship, students will learn to sing in harmony while working on rhythm and listening skills.

Ages 7-12

Come learn to perform a solo the way they do on Broadway!  Class begins with vocal exercise , implementing diction, breath, pitch, and tone.  Then, sing your favorite songs while you create a whole world of character, action, and resolution.  Inspire your new friends and be inspired in turn! Student must be able to memorize and present 60 seconds of a song.

Foundational vocal technique (MR. uRIAH OR MS. OLESYA)

Ages 5 & Up

Foundational Vocal Technique in a variety of styles from musical theater, to opera to pop!  Lessons are tailored to all levels of proficiency, from beginners to advanced vocalists. We employ the joyful cornerstones: diction, breath, pitch, and tone.  The first half of your private class will be technical exercises, the second half, and engaging singing repertoire.

Visual Arts

Seaside Arts Center’s Visual Arts program provides a space for students to explore develop and express their ideas while learning various media, styles,  and techniques.

Art explorers (MS. sTACIE)

Ages 5-7

Students will dive into art, exploring a wide array of mediums, including paint, sculpture, textile weaving, mixed media, (and more!), as they learn to express themselves and their own ideas through art. They’ll use their imaginations and create one-of-a-kind art works as they learn about color, shape, and 3D form. The Spring Semester will include all new projects and pieces, making it perfect for both new and returning students!

Discovering your inner artist (MS. STACIE)

Ages 7-12

Students will discover their own artistic abilities through drawing, painting, printmaking, drawing, bookmaking, and sculpture. They'll tap into their imaginations, creating new works of art inspired by influential artists and art styles from around the world.

This class is perfect for those who are new to Seaside, or who completed "Exploring the Self" in the fall.

The World of Drawing (MS. STACIE)

Ages 10 & Up

Not your traditional drawing class! Students will explore approaches to creating carefully observed drawings from their surroundings. A thoughtful and playful approach will be taken as they sharpen skills. They’ll learn how drawing can be used to practice mindfulness, strategies for developing accurate drawings through an emphasis on learning visual language as it relates to line, composition, value, and perspective. This class will utilize charcoal, watercolor, ink, and conté crayon.
